Stone Mother

You don’t know me,
But I am rock-hard and cold,
As hard as stone,
You say you like my smile,
But it is merely a crack
That surfaced under the pressure
Of your love…
A trick I learned to make you
Leave me alone.
You say you like my eyes
Because they are shiny like glass
But~
They reflect nothing,
They look past you,
Around you,
Through you,
But never at you,
Will never see you…
Now,
You say my lips are cold,
And flat,
And unfeeling,
And inside I laugh
Until the tears roll down
My unseeing eyes,
And form a small pool at my feet.

The Birds~
The birds come and sip,
Drawing out what little moisture
I managed to hide,
Making me more stone,
Than I already am.
I laugh, because you carved me,
Cutting away the pieces
You didn’t like,
Leaving me to rot and petrify
When your sculpture cracked and bled
Under your unskilled knife…
And now,
You lament because I am no longer alive…
A Stone mother
Watching over a stone garden.
I laugh,
Because if I didn’t,
I would cry.

Rein--you bring out true emotions very well in your writing. I love how you use symbols of your tribe to personify true feelings of others. It's absolutely awesome. Very sad poem. A masterpiece at best! LC

omg today I was looking at internet art, and ran across a photo of a stone woman carved into a rock and I saved it to my computer, because I was inspired to write a poem for it....and here you beat me to it...LOL...your write was dramatic and haunting......a real brain itcher! If you want I can email the picture to you, its in black and white, & I think its old...like maybe from the 1960's or something....Just a thought!

Ty for this, these powerful words

This is to date the best of everything I have read from you. You have taken all the hurt and pain reflected in so many of your works and they have culminated in a tearful and brillant poem.

This is so sad. You really know how to write meloncholy that is stark reality, yet has a gentlness to it. From beginning to end, the reader needs to know how it ends.

You do good work.
