Today I want to lie abed,
Pull the covers over my head,
Wish the world would just go away,
And here in my bed is where I’ll stay…

This is so not like me,
Don’t you see?
I am the runner,
The walker of paths,
The writer of words,
To ease my wrath,

But this battle has gone on much too long,
And my spirit is no longer strong,
I want to lie abed,
Cover my head,
Forget those ugly words you said…

I want to bleed me dry,
Take a thousand pills and die,
Put a bullet in my brain,
Watch as my life drains…

My friends who are not real,
Try to make me feel,
Saying come out for a while,
You know this is not your style…

But my door is locked,
And I don’t hear the clock
Ticking anymore,
As I hide behind this door…

I whisper to them just go away,
You know I don’t want you to stay,
You’re not real anyway,
Just one more person who wants to play,

And all I have to say,
Is God, not today,
Please not today…

Retta,
This is haunting, and Yes very easy to relate too! You have captured the feelings of being in this dark place very well.

Hoping this is not the case now!

Hugs,
Maria

Oh Retta, this is so hard to read and not cry for you. It will get better and you know that. But more important ... you are writing great poetry. Makes no difference sad or happy. Your work is wonderful. bill

Reindeer, so sorry you had a bad day. Each morning brings forth a new chance to start over and each night brings the chance to be thankful for the next new "tomorrow". Do not ever forget that.
Take care, my friend...

The opening stanza grabs the reader, pulling them in and making them READ the poem, not merely scan the words. Great write, hon...and way to east to identify with.

I have days where I sure just want to wave the white flag...but I'm sure it would just give away my position and draw enemy fire.
But hang on. Please please hang on.

Dear Retta, I am sorry for the lull in your life today. I can relate, I have been abed all day too. As I repeat A lovely great poetess once did say poetry is a salve to the heart before its decay.
