My Sea God


Slowly I rise,
Heavy with child,
And shake the clinging sand
From my hair…

The wind whispers,
And I feel the sand shifting uneasily,
Urgently pleading me to hurry,
Before the tide goes out again…

Waves of electric sea foam,
Flay my cheeks red,
And I taste him,
Salty man,
Water-hewed-

He rises then,
Like a forgotten God-
Wearing sea-white phosphorus for his robe-
His eyes are sea green and the deepest blue,
So like the midnight sky-

The tide calls out a warning-
And he beckons to me!
Wasted residue of scarred,
And tortured land creature…

He calls me to him,
Through our unborn child,
His name a whisper on my lips,
That I can’t forget…


The shell creatures scratch their approval,
On rocks bloodied by the moon,
How to refuse?

I enter his arms,
Feeling his cold strength
Flow into my soul,
His cold lips kiss hungrily
As the waves pass overhead…
