Love’s Surreal Dream
Darkness wells up around me,
Threatening to swallow me whole,
Cover me in the blackness of night,
Hiding me from your light…
The night’s creatures,
Slither, crawl, and fly,
Hear their haunting cries,
Echoing in my mind,
My heart a desert of emotion,
As I find;
I am living in a surreal dream,
Don’t know anymore what is real,
Though you try to touch me,
It is not you I feel…
A child cries,
Yet makes no sound-
Fear grips my heart,
What have I found?
I reach for my friend,
Who always wanted in,
Tried to keep him out,
Only to hear him shout,
Screaming words of anger,
That hurts my ears,
And feed my fears…
I reach for my friend,
To hold his hand,
Guide him in,
But he pulls away,
Sinks in the scarlet stained sand,
His face so strange and pale,
And I know that once again,
I failed!
I tried to save him from this pain,
But it drove him insane,
Lost on this ocean of darkness,
On a sea he could never sail,
He doesn’t know the tricks,
Though I tried to teach him!
He would not listen,
Thought I was real!
Why look at me that way!
Why couldn’t you listen
To what I had to say?
I told you so many times,
I could not stay!
Like a moth to a flame,
You were drawn in,
Daring me to burn you clean,
Damn you for trying again!
Why couldn’t you just go?
Why try to make me hope?
I touch my soul,
And know,
I am to blame-
For you it was all a game!
But who won baby?
Who won?
Ah my God,
I need to wake
From this surreal dream,
Before I began to believe,
It is real…
