Finding My Heart

I wish I could find my heart,
Sometimes I miss it,
Not often,
But once in a while,
I want to remember
What it’s like to feel…

I buried it somewhere,
But I don’t remember where-
And I’ve been searching
For quite some time,
But I can’t seem to find,
Where I laid it down,
I keep hearing the sound
Of crying in the woods,
And it’s driving me insane,
To listen to someone in pain…

There are some
Who keep saying they need me,
To come back again,
Even if it’s just a single day-
But I can’t seem to find a way…

My chest is empty,
There is nothing there,
It died that day,
He went away-
And like a good child,
I put your toy away…

Only now I want it back again,
And I can’t seem to see,
Exactly where I put it,
Against a rainy day…

It’s pouring outside,
And I am soaking wet…
Wish there was a way to get
My heart back again,
Maybe then I could
Truly be your friend…

I love this. Poignant, "heart"-felt. Bless you for sharing your innards. I hold them gently in my heart. Diane

I too hope you find your heart, but I suspect it is sitting there, going by the love that is in your words.

This I like...a lot. Too often we take our heart for granted, misplacing it in an effort to improve our minds...or hiding it away from further abuse and injury. To me, all poetry comes from the heart. Dear lady, based on this work, you still have your heart...its just a bit shy.
