The Knight Who Came To Me...

Someone asked me once,
How we came to be,
How we managed to stay together,
Though you are so different from me…

On a dark and lonely night,
When the moon was quite well hid,
I went walking in the rain,
Something I always did,
When my moods swung low,
And I needed someplace to go…

I never were a coat,
I never shield myself at all,
I need the rain to wash through me,
and rinse away my tears…
My woods are dark and deep,
And many fear my paths,
But I find comfort in their silence,
And its dark beauty soothes my soul.

I returned from my long walk,
And found a soldier in my home…
A man so brave and tall,
So golden brown and fair,
With eyes as black as the night,
Couldn’t help feeling something
About him was so right…

Strange to feel the electricity in the storm,
Had come into this room,
Felt as if I had seen you somewhere,
As I watched you sitting there…
Those who know me,
Know I do not speak,
And though you tried to talk to me,
I would not say a word-

But you were ever in command,
Not an ordinary man,
And you would not leave me be,
Until I could see,
You really saw something in me.
I couldn’t take my eyes off of your hands,
I don’t know why I saw them,
The way I did,
But they were so large,
So strong,
So beautiful,
Something about them,
Just touched my soul…

You reached out to touch my arm,
And I fell under your charm,
For your fingers sparked a fire
I have never felt such desire-
I looked into your eyes,
So clear and bright,
Saw something so strong and beautiful,
On that cold, wet night…

I did not want to love you,
I have seen the evil love can do.
Yet felt myself so drawn,
To the sad warrior that was you.
I asked you once,
What was it that made you choose,
This worn child that was me…

I will never forget what you said.
It rings in my head,
“You were like a wild child,
The storm had brought to me,
I could not help but see,
The tears,
The rain could not wash away…”
And I thought how much I would love you,
If you belonged to me…”

I fell in love with a soldier,
So fresh from the war,
The blood on his hands,
Was not hidden from me,
I could see something there,
And could not help but care,
For this soldier sitting so near,
And though my heart was full of fear,
I let him stay…
Somehow,
I knew he would not be frightened away.
By any words I would say.

I knew he possessed the strength,
To keep me safe from the sun…
For the nights are mine,
A place that I reside,
And seek its peace,
A cold release,
From the darkness that is me…

We blend you see,
This Knight and I,
He was not afraid of the midnight sky,
The stars do not blind him,
The moon does not freeze his soul,
He gives to me,
The strength I need to grow…

I knew the night would hide us,
Though you were so unlike me,
Neither of us could stand,
The dawns early light…
The moon lit our path,
As we walked in the night,
Its pale beauty illuminating our world,
And if shadows we were to be,
Then together we walked free…
For he alone could accept,
The dark creature that was me…
