* Warning: Not For the Squeamish, you've been warned! *
SIS
My strange friend,
Has a god,
She dreams of every night,
Sometimes,
I see her,
In my friends eyes,
Kali,
The Goddess,
Most powerful and strong,
Scaring the children
Into their beds at night,
Where they dream,
And scream,
And see her hair
With their friend’s finger bones,
Tied up with such care,
Ribbons of flesh
Holding them in place…
We call her Sis,
When she comes to play,
And all the men,
Run away-
Fearing to become
Another charm on her belt,
Shrunken heads,
With wagging tongues,
And silent eyes,
That are open too wide…
Don’t offer Sis your hand,
When you greet her,
She likes to bite,
Just a taste,
To see whether she might
Like to add you
To her waist…
Once I told my friend,
Someone took something
Away from me,
And Sis,
Brought it back
And laid it at my feet…
At first,
I couldn’t say a word,
Then Sis,
Began to eat…
Offering me a piece
Of bloody meat,
Saying;
“Look, it’s the only way
To get it back inside…”
My friend’s secret self,
Offered me back my life-
I raised it to my lips,
Took a sniff,
It smelled like…
Life.
I took a nibble,
Though my stomach
Was sickened,
It wasn’t that bad,
Tasted a little like,
Chicken…
Just a poem guys, no one panic k..Ha!
***** For those interested...************
Kali is the bright fire of truth, which cannot be hidden by the clothes of ignorance. Such truth simply burns them away.
She is full-breasted; her motherhood is a ceaseless creation. Her disheveled hair forms a curtain of illusion, the fabric of space - time which organizes matter out of the chaotic sea of quantum-foam. Her garland of fifty human heads, each representing one of the fifty letters of the Sanskrit alphabet, symbolizes the repository of knowledge and wisdom. She wears a girdle of severed human hands- hands that are the principal instruments of work and so signify the action of karma. Thus the binding effects of this karma have been overcome, severed, as it were, by devotion to Kali. She has blessed the devotee by cutting him free from the cycle of karma. Her white teeth are symbolic of purity (Sans. Sattva), and her lolling tongue which is red dramatically depicts the fact that she consumes all things and denotes the act of tasting or enjoying what society regards as forbidden, i.e. her indiscriminate enjoyment of all the world's "flavors".
The bloodied sword and severed head symbolize the destruction of ignorance and the dawning of knowledge. The sword is the sword of knowledge, that cuts the knots of ignorance and destroys false consciousness (the severed head). Kali opens the gates of freedom with this sword, having cut the eight bonds that bind human beings. Finally her three eyes represent the sun, moon, and fire, with which she is able to observe the three modes of time: past, present and future.

Dear Retta, There is a web-site in a Yahoo group, about a witch named Kali! I wonder if she is the same person?
Anyhow people like myself and others from the Bronx have seen worse then Kali. I still think this prose was great, it was fasinating, and wonderfully written!
A Ten!!
Fantastic write Reindeer, but glad for the warning;-)David Walters a writer here on AD once wrote about the Kali, but I didn't remember all the great info you gave. I do remember seeing a picture that was supposed to represent her.

Love it. I just did some research on Marie Laveau and voodoo, for a novel I'm working on. This reminded me of it. Well done. Thanks for the explanation too.

I saw a bumper sticker recently that declared "Kali is my co-pilot!" That wasn't you driving, was it?
Love this one, sweetie. It appeals to my baser nature.
