You tell me so casually,
I watched a tank,
Roll by my window just now...
And my heart is gripped by fear,
Wondering how you can sit there
And watch such a thing,
It's all too real,
I feel such fear,
You sitting there,
Watching the war
Outside your window...
You send me a photo;
In the background,
A beautiful mountain rises
And touches the sky,
You tell me,
The snow is so beautiful
Shining in the light of the noon day sun,
But all I can see is the barb wire
And the tanks lined up
Reality of where you are
Haunting my mind
As you speak so casually
Of the beauty you see
In such a war torn place...
I think of two lovers,
Torn apart by this war
And wish them such happiness,
The Phantom,
And His Lady Raven,
Torn apart by this thing,
Yet their love is strong,
Beautiful and real...
And think of you,
Sitting by your window,
Watching the tank roll by
Unafraid,
So brave,
So brave…
While I sit here,
Safe at home,
So Afraid…
The thing is my friend,
Your picture showed me
Your lovely mountain,
But it also showed me,
You...

This is excellent! It is a lovely tribute to you friend, but also it graphically illustrates a simple an often overlooked fact...those men and women whose job it is to serve this country are not calloused. My best to your friend...I pary for his safe and quick return.
Oh Retta,
This brought tears to my
heart..
Beautiful as always...

In order to find beauty within the brambles and brush of life we sometimes must fight our way past those brambles and brush to reach it...Never fear Jos has, and by this piece so have you!

I so enjoyed this, Retta, like everything you post. The stark contrast between here and there was beautifully struck.

Thanks Rein, again you have me tearing up here. As I have been here nearly two years now I find I need to see the beauty that is here and the history, with the Ottomans and Romans and Greeks the scenery and yes even the scars of war and the reality of war in contrast with Gods creations. Again I am touched by your words and their haunting beauty. Hey I am just an average Jos!!!!! smiles.
My prayers are for your friend and for all those in war torn places.
It is so hard for those left behind worrying and waiting.
How can the snow stay white and beautiful when there is war and hate?It does not seem right.
And yet,we do stop to see the mountains perhaps we should all be looking more at each other instead,I don't know anymore.
Best wishes always and I loved your poem it tugged my heart strings.

It's nice to know that even in a war zone a poet and a friend can see the beauty of the world. Your friend is very brave indeed. Tell them to take care and look for the beauty in everything. It's there somewhere.
