The Reality in Dreams

It's eating me alive
This pain inside...
Leaving me
Needing to bleed,
Cut right through
To my heart
And watch it drain out
Cold black blood

Watch it flow,
Like a river,
Down the front of my gown,
Your harsh words,
Ringing in my ears,
I trace pretty symbols
On my skin,
How lovely they look
How real,
Far more real than me…

More real for even my dreams
My dark dreams where everything is more than real
Where I swim in my insect infested blood-

They help trace the symbols as well
When I cut a wound,
And let them crawl in
Thinking of you
Wanting them to continue crawling
To my heart and eat it out,

As they pass through,
Each one takes a memory of you,
Then at last you are gone,
Nothing remaining except the dawn,
And an empty heart,
Bones with the marrow eaten away,
Greeting the new day…

I lay here
Staring into the dark abyss
That only exists
Deep in my mind
Where you.... once lived
It’s cold today…
It’s not only you they ate away
But everything I knew
Every thing that wasn’t even,
A part of you…

Even the blood that once flowed
So freely has stopped,
And the moon,
The moon how she glows!
Smiling down at me,
Now I see,
It was never death I feared,
It was me…

oh, painful, haunting and written with so much passion, Retta, felt, it made me feel and those last lines, chilled, oh...all too much relate, you...this, courageous and bold and painfully all too real...oh, You, such a gentle soul, always there, always...I, no wonder you understand all so much, all too well...I, well, am, just...(((((you))))
Hauntingly raw and right from the heart, no holds barred and so much honest emotion...beautifully done, frigteningly real, to me...

Lot's of emotion and I like the last two lines:

It was never death I feared,
It was me…

Nicely done.

I felt like hiding under the covers. Dark poems have that effect on me. But I really liked the last two lines...

"It was never death I feared,
It was me…"

Great write!

An awesome write from you and your friend Reindeer! One with the most intense depth of inner bruising. I hurt from the thought of such wounds. Incredible imagery!

Awesome write indeed, Reindeer! I like this dark imagery from beginning to end. Good reflection on that darkness felt within yourself.
