Light and Shadow: Justin’s Challenge




I am so down,
In soft velvety blackness,
Its dark arms wrapped around my soul,
Holding me tightly in its dark embrace,
I feel I shall never rise again,
Nor see your sweet face,
Nor hear those softly whispered lies,
You speak so gracefully into my ears,
That seep and leak out my wounded heart,
That dark blood staining the ground,
With its mortal wound,
And I share its life blood with you,
Will you dare to sip from this cut I made for you?
Will you taste the exquisite pain you give me?
So freely and willingly?

Did I not take the cup from your hand?
And drink deeply from it?
Am I so brave?
Or just a fool,
For believing you-

All you do,
Lies before me-
On the edge of this blade,
That drips crimson drops to the ground,
And I watch them fall
With unweeping eyes
And remember the lies,
The half truths
You sought for me to believe,
Sweet darkness,
Comforting me,
Surrounding me
With pillows of such softness,
Such is the beauty of black,
The absence of light,
The deep blending of all colors,
Until they become one,

As I am one
With this shadow
That lies across my heart…

Then you come,
Shining your light in my face,
Asking me to forget the blackness of my life,
That sticks to my soul,
Like the black tar on the road…

You smile and whisper haunting words,
I have heard before,
I turn my head away,
But you refuse to leave,
Until you make me believe,
You are the one,
That will peel back the shadows,
Leaving me so…
Undone.

Light and shadows,
A mix of life,
Like we two,
Do you know what you do?
How I feel when you say you love me?
How much I fear!

Can only think to run,
Hide,
Escape…

But,
I am drawn,
Like a moth to the flame,
And seek that burn,
Need to feel again,
Need to be real…

So,
You seek to be the light,
That pierces the shadow of my life,
Come then,
Let us see how strong you are,
Let me count the seconds that you stay,
How long will you be here?
You say forever,
And I say,
Only for today…

Darkness and shadow,
Look how they play!
Running from the light,
Running away…

Pin me then,
Pin me to your heart,
Show me how you will,
Destroy the shadows,
And tear them apart…

I am wild and dark,
Fierce in my fright,
But you come so softly,
And whisper to my heart;

“My lady,
There is no light without day,
No darkness without night,
I am here to stay,
I am not going away,
Darkness and Light,
Are one don’t you see?
As I am to you,
So you are to me…

They have lasted for eons,
And so shall we…
I need you only to believe,
In the love I have for you…”

And color washes into my world again,
Love blending the darkness into light,
Light chasing the shadows away,
As you whisper how much you love me today…
