When The Light Is Not Enough…



I heard something today-
And it caught me by surprise,
It touched something so deep inside…

He said;
“When the light is not enough…
I will be by your side…”

But where will you be,
When I feel the need to hide?
When the darkness consumes me,
And makes me want to die?

When will the light ever be enough?
When will my life not be so damn rough?
I turn out the lights in every room,
Preferring the dark and comforting gloom…

It’s so strange,
For you to think I am unhappy here-
Don’t you know there is nothing to fear?
In the soft darkness,
I am safe and warm,
It protects me from things,
I don’t want to see…

I fall ever lower,
Where it is darker still,
Trying not to run,
But it takes all my will…

And he said;
“When the light is not enough,
Will you think of me?”

I shivered,
But not from the cold,
I trembled,
But not from fear,
I felt my knees begin to fold,
I couldn’t help feeling,
He was drawing far too near…

I felt again the urge to flee,
Before he got inside of me,
But I was too late-
His love had soaked into my skin,
And he asked me to let him in…

How could I reply?
Those dark clouds,
Always covered my skies…
I believed Love to be,
The cruelest of lies…

But he said so softly;
“I will be your light,
In this dark place you dwell,
And when the light is not enough,
My love will show you,
A way out of your hell…

The path to follow,
You don’t even have to see,
Because my love,
It will always lead you to me…”

When the light dims,
And my spirit is grim,
I hear you calling me softly
To come to you…

How can I turn away?
No matter how much I want to-
My heart always leads me,
Back to you…
