I’ll Smile For You…

Feeling so down,
Want to scream and shout,
But I won’t,
Not yet,
Instead,
I’ll just sit here,
And smile for you…

Did you ever want to scream,
“Don’t touch me!
Go Away!”
But instead you stood there,
And endured his embrace…

While your arm burned,
Where he touched you,
And your heart hurt,
When he said he loved you,
But,
You stood there,
And smiled,
With tears in your eyes,
And when he asked you why,
You lied,
And said…

“I am so happy,
I am smiling for you…”

Did your heart ever crash?
Sounding like glass,
And someone asked you,
What was wrong,
And you smiled
And said,
“Just having one of those days…”

When you picked up the glass,
Did you cut yourself?
Did you bleed?
And watched the blood,
Drip on the floor,
And smiled to yourself,
Wishing there was more?

Did your friends ever ask you,
What was wrong,
But your lips were frozen shut,
As frozen as your heart,
And you smiled at them,
Like I am smiling at you now,
And say,
“Everything is coming apart…”

And they smiled too,
And said;
“Oh how sad,
Wish there was something,
I could do…”

Has anyone ever asked you,
To smile when you want to cry,
To live,
Though you feel like dying?

Well,
Look at me love,
Look how shiny my eyes are,
Look how wonderfully,
I am smiling for you…

Sometimes we pretend everything's okay even when it's not, whether it be because we're depressed or because we still have to function at work in spite of personal problems at home. I relate to this.
Thanks for creating and sharing.

yes yes and yes! I think we all felt this one really deeply. I know I did...
I also loved the title. Just how oxymoronic, because I came in thinking this would be happy and it was far from it. Like the poem itself. Wonderful!

Sadly, we all don these masks for the sake of others or to protect ourselves. A few of us only manage to emerge from behind that by writing beautiful but poignant verses such as these

Retta, this hurt me to read. Wonderfullly expressed and beautifully put. Silver

PS: Oh and yes, I have been there...standing there smiling while everything was falling apart...and even those who know that pain don't seem to remember how it felt and give you that wonderful advice...."you will get over it". I remember.

So intensely mournful is this write, cutting to the depths of any who have hid within the lie. Long ago I stood in this shadow. I bless the day of the great thaw, which set me free from my icy prison. Look to the sun, sweet lady.
