True Love (c. 1970)
I drove up to the speaker
And ordered a burger and drink
Then pulled ahead as requested
It was somewhere in Georgia I think.
As I arrived at the “pay here” window
She gave me the prettiest smile
Business was a little slow just then
So we chatted for a while.
“It’s absolutely beautiful” she said
I immediately checked my fly
It was just an instinctive reaction
My shrink would probably know why.
Her eyes told an exciting story
Her tattoo told even more
“So handsome and good looking” I heard her say
I knew she was the one for sure.
I leaned forward like a horny toad
And smiled thru my bright veneers
“What time shall I pick you up, my dear?”
“Get lost” was not in my fears.
“I’m free at seven, and don’t be late”
Her words caressed me like the fog
“My boyfriend will love to see it too”
My vision just turned into smog.
“He’d love to check things out for sure
He likes them hot classy and fast…
“Your eyesight is good and I would if I could
But I can’t so our future is past.”
As I drove away for the highway
A voice in my head saved the day…
“Pretend she was talking about your truck
And next time try a café.”
cheers,
dan
