For they surround us
They define us
They give us hope

And purpose.
Whether we are young or old
Rich or poor
In good health or bad
This trio persists—
They tug at our values
They awaken our souls
They give life to
Our needs.
They are the wind at our backs
The music of our thoughts
They are the stuff of life
These three comforters
For without them we die—
Poets write about them
Musicians play for them
Lovers revel in their moods.
What are these drivers of what is
The elements of what could be
The creators of all that life portends?
Only this and nothing more--
Something to do
Something to live for
Someone to love.
