The forest of creativity
So still
I dare not breach the sacred silence
I tread on velvet emerald moss of inactivity
So afraid to call attention to myself
My living judgement
So still and silent is the night
The night that knows not the difference
Between light and dark
Stagnant pond of thoughts
There’s not even a ripple
And no frogs call
To jumpstart the imagination
The ideas of trees just stand
Leaves of mind’s eye hang listlessly drooping
Stagnant spirit
I dare not even know if I am awake
Or dreaming
These days of fog
When anything can happen
A very moving poem that gets to me... Thank you for sharing. I feel the tears sting my eyes...for some reason. You have a powerful and affective way with words. It's a gift!
SEEMS THAT A POET JUST CANNOT SAY 'NOTHING'...EVEN COMPLAINTS OF 'SILENCE' FROM A POET IS SOMETHING. IN ANY CASE, GIVING YOU THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT, I'D SAY, 'THE GIFT' WAS JUST RESTING...IN ORDER THAT IT MIGHT BLESS US WITH THE WONDERFUL WORKS OF TODAY. THANKS FOR SHARING AND GOD BLESS YOU. This is brilliant poetry Regis. Spent half my life in a fog, unfortunately. Anything can happen and most often did.
Regis, you have caught the mood perfectly in a poem of great serenity and allegory. What are we as creative people when the creative core of our lives falls listlessly into a fog.....Jerry

Dear Reg -
Oh yes I know too well of what you write. Hang in my friend. You have written this in such a beautiful poetic way - it's obvious your poet is still in there - and will burst through. I'm only starting to get back to the better poetry days (I thinkl), but am of course afrait it will go away anyt minute. Someone told me that the reason our poetry is referred to as "our work" is because it is such work. So try to keep practicing; I know it's hard.
I have had more days like this than I car to tell, Reg. The images here show a mind filled with mist, and not a creative thought in sight. So, where is all the thinking gone? It went into the days of fog. Thanx for sharing Reg.
May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie
The whole poem is quite fascinating
and leads the reader to the expressive conclusion:
"I dare not even know if I am awake
Or dreaming
These days of fog
When anything can happen"
Well done!
i know the feeling, regis. it will pass, in time. breaking with routine can be helpful, as can be long periods of inactivity/recharging...
all the same, yet another memorable write, poet!

Your last two lines say it all, Reg. From that foggy place where we make no choices, the choices will ultimately unfold for us and we will awaken into a new reality. A well written, moody and mysterious offering.
Take care,
Sherry
And yet. . .and yet. . .just look at what came out of the fog~!! Beautiful, beautiful work, my friend!! The other side of the creative coin wears a dark and forbidding face, when it doesn't turn up blank. Have to have dark to see light? Have to rip apart fixed ideas and throw away a lot of debris to make room for new ones? Somepn like 'at. Thank you for sharing your creative gems. Helping to light up our lives!! <3'Pea' <3
It seems our creative souls are a magnet that draws the fog around us hoping to subdue our expressions of hope for humanity, but the light of our creativity allways finds a new way to shine through.
...and somehow...within fog...surrounded...still the faintest light...so that one may put pen to page...coloring words well...as you have here.
well done Regis...
John
Like the lines still and silent is the night the night that knows no difference. Can really relate to that part. All in all it flows smoothly and holds your attention.
Been there, Regis. Really well worded description, very artfully done. Leaves one with that light headed, not fully there feeling.
Wishing you all good things,
Jim
Evocative poem, regis. Like a walk in the green light of the forest and a sense of wondering where to go; like Frost, miles to go....

Most writers have these feeling from time to time, Reg.
The fog does lift. Perhaps you need to go in a different direction for a while. How about a trip into the woods or a sea shore or mountain escape. Let us know what you find there. The fog doesn't have you trapped. You can escape anytime you want to. If all else fails, stare straight into the fog maybe something will emerge.
Well expressed, Reg. I was feeling something like what you describe. A handful of Trojans and worms found a hole in my firewall and invaded my computer yesterday. Wound up having to trash the hard drive. I've been trying to recover all day. Hoping for external drive to be my salvation. I had a password on it. That's fine, but the new XP won't recognize it. I have to load 265 MB software file over phone line to be able to have it recognized and remove password. Bummer!
Went out to fine dinner and came home to neighborhood humming and singing with croak of spring peepers. Now, I'm ready to get creative.
Best regards,
Leland
Such a perfect description of the days when poetic creativity has settled to the dregs. I have been languishing in this fog for several weeks now. Unable to put a good thought together. Unable to create any lyric worth penning. The doldrums are an inhospitable place to find ones self. The frustration overwhelms me. Your poem is an excellent analogy so creatively written. Thanks. May peace be always with you.JMW
Very powerful and the pic you painted throughout was so vividly seen. Fantastic poem, I think you drew us all in from beginning to the end. Love, Bonnie
I know about these days of fog!!!
You have writing a stunning write your words
Captured the lack of inspiration and as i read
I felt feelings of sadness in your words
However you have writing a brilliant piece
Which I’m sure we all can relate to
Regis when I feel that the fog is overwhelming me
I go out to the mountains and climb to the cliff
Take deep breaths and meditate
Thank you for sharing this very beautiful
View of you!!

As I've said before... if all of us could write like you when you are in the "doldrums of creativity"... what a fine bunch of authors we would be!

Hey, this is a great start with this poem. Just write and write and the ripples will come. So what if it doesn't make sense you don't have to post just write what ever comes along. Great Write. Liz
You need to keep writing, everyday, no excuses, even if, like this poem, it's about not being able to write. If you do a little everyday, you will never have a lack of inspiration. The key is giving yourself the permission to write crap-not every word you write is printed in stone, and just writing crap at least keeps you writing so that when inspiration, whatever that may be (as the saying goes, writing is 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration) comes along, you will be more than ready. Those first four lines show the soul of a poet-the next two tell you WHY you are not writing. No one can write if they are afraid to reveal themselves because of their own self-judging. The next three lines are really wonderful, too. And all those wonderful descriptions have inspired you even if you are using them to say you are NOT inspired, lol. I love the last line, and within the truth that it speaks, is why you need to write everyday-because knowing that frees your spirit from being stagnant. Fog is wonderful. Fog gives us time to breathe, to regroup, to dream and touch mystery. REach out into it, my friend, and it will tell you the words. Blessings, my friend, Michelle
The sad fact is there is never any reason or rhyme to it either. Some days the ideas and words flow and other days leave one dry, artfully articulated...
as so often happens, those writes that express feelings of helpless haplessness and lack of inspiration turn out to be the most vivid and illuminating. This is no exception, Regis. Often the poetic waters that seem out of reach turn out to be sweetest. Bless you, Kate xx

Regis, days of fog come to everyone in this life. When I get into the thick of the fog, I get my pen out and try to get to the important things in my life: religion, companion, children, love, and life in general and I write the many blessings that I have had in my life. We're going through a difficult time in life with all the tornadoes, cyclone's, earthquakes, and the terrible wars we are in...this is enought to put anyone into a fog. Take a walk and breathe in life, looking at the beauty we've been given to live in and see if you don't feel a release coming your way. I truly thought this poem to be compassionate, truthful, and in sincerity. An excellent write!
When I find myself in those dreaded Days of Fog, I soon head to a forest or to a lake to find some enlightenment. Nature seems to be the only thing that helps me.
Well you creatively wrote about this, It hits home to me, I have been in a bit of a fog also. I believe it is because of all of these events happening to our Mother Earth. All people connected to the vibrations of the earth are feeling the same way. I have been very off balance since the China earthquake...
Much peace, love, and healing light your way,
hugs to you too,
