It's so clear now
With all the time that's left
I see the deep greens and yellows of spring
In the shepherd field at the closing of dusk
I watch the sheep disappear.
Below the mountain with the sunshades
shallow comforts that close the day.
With all I could speak against the darkness
but torches and oil lamps will flicker
the village below the mountain
will reappear to these crimson eyes of mine.
From the cedar, the crimson ran down
and touched the villages below the mountain.
But my heart was blind, my eyes could cry
no more, from the earth I wrought the steel
and fashioned it to the likeness of my blood red eyes.
I held them in contempt of all I did not have
and whisked away all they would inherit tomorrow.
In anger, in fury, in fear, I struck out
and would not lament in the sorrow that followed.
But everywhere a faster horse than mine
would capture me before the sun rose again
and take me to this mountain top
to keep me locked away.
In the rain that fell from the rooftops
I heard your crimson cry
and weaker steps in all the depths of my heart
left me on my knees and poured out in the rain
to quench the fields that run below
the village in the mountain.
Here was my freedom found in all the Glory
of my picture cage. In the morning when
the bell rings out I will visit the village below.
Nothing He has created here will compare
to what I will see tomorrow. The sleepy sorrows
I have lived, I will feel no pain in the final blow.
I have seen the treasures
that every man longs to hold
and chased it with these crimson eyes of mine.
So to the jailer I bid thee well
I sing a song for the executioner who will free me
from this bondage of life I leave behind.
Salt to the earth, light to the world
I have found the truth and the way
and know as His crimson ran from the cedar,
to the villages below the mountain
all this from which I have been redeemed
tomorrow will see me in paradise.
This is like a book one reads and never puts down. It will go in my library and i will look forward to your others.
Thank you,
