You remind of a man I know,

That looked an awful lot like you,

Though taller and a little heavier in the waist,

And his hair was a little longer too,

And your eyes are brown while his were blue,

And of course there was that scar across his face.

Oh yes, and he had a darker shade of skin,

But apart from that, you could be twins,

Right down to your accent, when you speak,

He was a broad Glaswegian I recollect,

So like your cockney dialect,

You’d be mistaken for each other on the street.

Ok, you’re not identical I’ll give you that,

I mean, your hair is blonde while his was black,

But the resemblance between you is so clear,

If not for his squint and plaintive lisp,

And that exaggerated limp of his,

And If he had all his teeth and lost the beard,

It would be uncanny how alike you are,

Apart from what I said and that facial scar,

There can’t be two more similar people in the world,

In fact the only difference I can see,

Between you two quite honestly,

Is that he’s a man, while you’re a girl.

That was a hoot! Some people didn't get the humor, but I sure did. You make a case for mistaken identity and a good reason for not having eyewitnesses at trials that put people away for a long time because someone thinks they saw someone that they didn't.

You have a way of writing poetry that is so easy to read and understand, yet gives us profound insight into human behavior. Just keep them coming…

This happens in this confused world where one doesn't believe his/her own gender. This is how I would read into this poem and interpret it this way. Many children nowadays will be very confused individuals when they grow up when their parents force them to become someone whom they are not, the result can only be interpret as a form of child abuse. Children are supposed to grow up and be certain and confident about themselves.

There's been cases of mistaken identity before, but none quite as humorously written, Shades of I'm Not Rappaport.
