GRANDMA’S LAP
Grandma’s lap is the strength of the Neighborhood
She has nursed and raised two generations the best she could
Grandmother we see why you are so grand
Missiles and bombs of generations you endured and still continue to withstand.
Many crying eyes you’ve wiped and bad behinds you did slap
But we are thankful that you were there when we needed to crawl into Grandma’s lap
With joy we remember the stories you told us as we looked into your eyes
Sweet and wonderful adventures and scary stories about the Boogey
Man and what he will do if we are caught telling lies.
With whimpering we tossed and turned in Grandma’s lap
As she bounced us on her knees and told us to take a nap
Those days of old in the Hood we can tell
It was Grandma’s hand that kept us strong and well.
No matter what the future will bring
A song to grandma we’ll always sing
There may come a time when some of us will be like her perhaps
Doing the same thing to another generation helping them to know life in Grandma’s lap.
