65 At the beginning of December I think about my birthday at the end Like a spark or more like an ember Of hope to make me think I might transcend Get to something to look forward to Not Christmas for me looking back I see Something less to get to than get through But December is a good time to be For me now is when I remember How I was meant to be apparently Announced by thunder and lightning then Having arrived to survive 65 Ends of December improbably Bound for another round around the bend Thinking about my birthday again Surprised as anyone to be alive Having survived to arrive at when Everyone celebrates if not for me I will celebrate my having been By being still and seeing quietly When my age though old will be made new Surprised as anyone to survive To be 65 like I hope I do Steven Curtis Lance

Sixty-five is in my rearview mirror. You have a lot to look forward to living the ascetic desert life and possibly a century. I hope your self-analysis through poetry gets you to the point where you can free yourself from these burdens and take on the future squarely and clearly.

I though senior years were the golden ones, 65 sucks just as much as did 55, but what the hell I am still alive, hard to believe I did this far survive...-e-

I'll say happy B-day. I'll be 66 on the 26th. A couple of hours sooner, and I would've been a Christmas baby. I really didn't think old age started so young.
