The Purpose of This Exercise

Tomorrow never came but yesterday
Did and it never went away

I meant to get rid of it but it got
Rid of me with a memory
I try to resist existentially

Between life and death underway
I wonder but I would rather not see
I do but would rather not say

Maybe the purpose of this exercise
Is for me to learn compassion
Thinking of others more than otherwise
Other myself in my fashion

I had to go mad and be sent away
To see what it meant to be free

It had to go badly before I knew
I was too sad to be alone
Out on my own I was about to be
Unnecessarily lonely

Guessing I was not the one and only
One I could see others like me

So as it turned out I learned what to do
Because of others who had known
And understood me all along the way

The long way and the hard way but
Was it the wrong way? I think maybe not

Reflected in another's eyes
Expecting me I realize today
The purpose of this exercise
Thinking of others more than otherwise

Because of the love I was shown
Maybe it all turned out right anyway

It probably did. Everyone goes through stuff that shapes and molds them and who knows how in the world any one of them turn out! Great write again, Steven.

Love ya!

Perhaps it did. Perhaps not.

Next Arrivals by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
