Awareness

By

Bill Cottringer

You think you are free?

Awareness is the key;

What to be aware of?

Well, for starters,

Try noticing something,

A thing you haven’t noticed;

Like the power of pride,

Ego, distrust and false beliefs;

Start being free by realizing,

One very important thing—

All you think you know,

May not be necessarily so,

Opening your closed mind,

To learning something important,

About what you don’t know;

In giving up pride of ownership,

You gain the humility of freedom;

That is the meaning of the saying,

The truth shall set you free,

As awareness you see,

Has always been the key,

Being the simplest truth,

With nothing to add,

Say or take away.

The Prosperity Zone

The hardest thing for us to be aware of is the likely inaccuracy and incompleteness of all the truths, realities and beliefs we think we know to be so; Only a mind driven to be open with enough humility can serve as the key to the hubris lock we have on our pride of ownership
of what we are certain is the way things are. Cheers for more open minds, because that is really the only way you know you have one!!

I love to read, and that's how I keep learning. Knowledge is endless.

So true. With knowledge comes enlightenment. I am amazed, at my age, with all that I have learned through a life of experience and study, to find that almost every day I learn something new. Often it is something that I have simply overlooked or taken for granted. So these revelations come sometimes with a bit of shock, but in a good way.

Like your poem relates, when we stop learning and changing--especially our attitude and opinions--we become much freer.

Ron
