Peacock Sounds

A neighbour on one side of us has a peacock making noises twenty four hours a day. Friends all around have trouble sleeping yet don't want to be nasty. I wrote this poem and gave it to the owners of the bird.

A hundred times a day he shrieks,

A hundred times a day they cringe,

And yet, nobody dares to say a word,

Not even "that chap" across the street.

They all agree: "It isn't fair!"

For they need rest at night,

Some peace and quiet

To dream and think each day,

Yet, nobody dares to say a word,

Not even "that chap" across the way.

The poor creature "Just wants some loving

to sustain him and to fulfill is male desires."

We all know that,

Yet, nobody dares to say a word,

Not even "that chap" across the mat.

Two years or more go by,

He srieks and calls for love's lost possibilities, We have grown older,

Perhaps a little wiser,

Yet, nobody dares to say a word,

Not even "that chap" behind the boulder.

A hundred times a day and during night

We tell each other: "Do something, quick!

Or else I cannot guarantee my sanity!"

Yet, nobody dares to save their friend,

Not even "that chap" around the bend!

So, on and on the birdie shrieks,

What happens now? Nobody knows,

Not even "that chap" out in the sticks.

The Wholly Book of Genesis by Jay Dubya

The Wholly Book of Genesis is a humorous satire on the first book of the Old Testament where the Story of Creation, the building of Noah's Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah and the families of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are thoroughly spoofed and broadsided.
