It is very important for me to express to you,

how much you really mean to me.

I wish I could do this in person,

while holding you tightly in my arms,

gazing into your beautiful eyes.

But since we are physically and mentally separated,

by lack of understanding, hope and forgiveness,

this expression had to come in the form of a poem such as this. 

I hope you have enjoyed, all my tokens of love,

I’ve shared with you through the years,

having all hope and never any fears.

They are only small tokens of my love for you

that But the memory of what we shared,

I will carry with me,

as long as God wills it be.

Together we searched,

promising to never give up.

Looking to find each other’s love through the storm.
I am completely without explanation…

For today,

I must say goodbye,

for there is no more hope,

in our once blue sky.

I know it must be difficult for you,

just as it is for me.

To be alone again,

to stare into the dark face of loneliness.

I can not imagine how it must feel,

to have the life that was dealt to you,

but what I do know,

is that you have been stronger than I could have

ever been. 

Your strength has been the essence,

of what has gotten you this far,

and for that, I envy you.

Life seems to be full of trials.

Trials of pain, sorrow and despair.

Much of which we have both have gone through

together,

but together, could never bare.

If we were to look at each other in the eye,

I know that neither of us,

would dare to walk in the other ones shoes.

Our love has been assaulted many times,

and I am convinced that our inner strength,

and more importantly, our devotion and love for

one another,

will get us through this separation. 

It is said that "True Love" is boundless.

Immeasurable and forever.

True love overcomes all forms of adversity. 

In truth, if our love was genuine,

it would have grown stronger,

with each assault upon its existence.

We have shared many years together,

and have experienced those years,

through what we thought was love. 

When I say the word love, many things come to mind.  All of which makes me wonder if it was actually love that kept us together through the years. 

Could it have been?
Even through the tears?

When I say I love someone, what I mean is that I trust them. Giving them the full opportunity to prove themselves to me and not deny their loyalty. 

Never to persecute them based on my past….

Have you truly done that for me? 

When I say I love someone, what I mean is that I stand by them.

Believing in them,

no matter how ridiculous or obscure their ideas may be.

Have you truly done that for me?

When I say I love someone, what I mean is that I have let them become a part of my life.

Sharing things in our life that normal people do not,

for we are one mind-one body. 

Their feelings are my feelings, their hopes are my hopes,

their dreams are my dreams…

Have you truly done that for me?

When I say I love someone, what I mean is that I want to share my life with them,

Even through life’s ups and downs. 

Time after time, forever and ever,

to help each other at whatever the cost….

Have you truly done that for me?

When I say I love someone, what I mean is that I have patience for them and do everything necessary,

and try not to loose my temper with them,

because they are close to my heart. 

For I know if I hurt them, I have hurt myself….

Have you truly done that for me?

I have lost a lot over the years,

even now with the love we once shared.

Although our relationship was not the best,

we promised that we could always rely on one another, because in life,

each other is all that we had.

I will soon be bringing this poem to and end,

but I wanted to say one more thing before I do. 

Since you came into my life,

I’ve done a complete 360 in terms of who I am

and all that has made me who I thought I was.

I have done this because of you.

Not in your light, but in your shadow.

You have so much,

all of which you apparently take for granted. 

But I ask you, what do I have?

So, if you can truly understand how it feels to be alone,

maybe you can reconsider the way you have treated me,

being selfish and wanting me all to yourself. 

I am a person too,

just like you.

Maybe I’m crazy,

or just a little confused.

But the one thing I am certain of,

is I never knew love, seeing it in you.

Even with this,

I cherish any thought of you,

prize any memory of you,

that rises from the depths of my mind.

But for now,

I must say goodbye my dearest love.

For now I must start over with me,

and live life with only the memory of you and I as one,

and the love that was never meant to be…
