Restless, hungry for country roads
they find a dirty school bus
on the outskirts of town in a scrapyard.
The recently wedlocked couple
he of lofty eyes, she of twisted hair
both of flawlessly arched eyebrows
make a good deal buying
the yellow school bus, seats and all.
Both of mingling nature,
they woo their friends to go on tour.
The lemon bus fills with buddies
some casting wry comments as amusement
The driver is raw with excitement
at manning an unwieldy vehicle.
The bus grabs with its front legs
while the rear end pendulums
shaping a circle as if on ice.
Everyone squeals with raucous laughter.
Black lines painted on yellow define the day.
Rhinoceros roaring, the marmalade bus speeds away
into a woodsy glen, sparkly creeks, sugary green trees.
Sooty sparks of dreams puff behind the bus,
dreams of excursions made happier by camaraderie
wishes for bubbly babies in new bonnets
visions of more years together.
The bus of friendship waits
for those who would climb its three steps.
