Because Londis reminded me that humour and fun are important too.

(My daughter used to take a banana to school for morning tea. One day for some strange reason I wrote a message on one and of course, as any parent knows, this instantly became a firm, and unbreakable, family "tradition". So then each day along with her banana my daughter took a little poem from her dad - just big enough to fit on a banana. Not only that but reading my daughter's banana at morning tea became a bit of a class "tradition" at school. Then someone said "you know you should write these down on something a little more permanent". - So here is a running record of some of my banana peel poems coming to you as they happened!)

With its long and graceful bend
The banana resembles a boomerang a lot,
But one good toss in the playground,
Will prove quite conclusively it's not!

----------------ooOoo------------------

Bananas are full of health and vitamins
For tooth and muscle and eye,
But if "healthy" makes you run a mile
Just pretend it's a yellow meat pie!

----------------ooOoo------------------

Some bananas are green
And some of them are yella,
And some of them have writing on
Like this little fella!

----------------ooOoo------------------

Roses are red
And violets are purple,
But don't eat me too quick
Or I'll make you burple!

----------------ooOoo------------------

Roses are red
And daffodils ain't
And bananas are yellow.
Now isn't that quaint?

----------------ooOoo------------------

Some bananas are short
And some of them are long,
And some like this big fella
Just go on and on ... and on ... and on ... and on ...!

----------------ooOoo------------------

Unlike the traditional message stick
You can eat this one and it won't make you sick!

----------------ooOoo------------------

Look! Down there in the lunchbox!
Is it a bone?
A mobile phone?
A bendy comb?
NO! It's super banana!

----------------ooOoo------------------

An apple a day
May keep the doctor away.
But to really have fun
You need a banana in the tum!

----------------ooOoo------------------

Some Bananas are straight
And some of them are bendy,
And some even have names!
HI! My name's Wendy!

----------------ooOoo------------------

This banana's soooo tasty
You can almost feel it,
But before you take a bite
Please make sure you peel it!

----------------ooOoo------------------

Bananas grow on many hands
In a tree with many palms.
Banana trees could rule the world
... If only they had arms!

----------------ooOoo------------------

When invited to a meal
Bananas think it's rather crook,
That you feel you need to peel 'em
While your happy to dress a chook!

----------------ooOoo------------------

This banana had but one purpose
From the time it was just a blossom,
Till someone scribbled on its face
... Or is it on its bottom???

----------------ooOoo------------------

Bananas come and bananas go
But the lunchbox lingers on.
But should a banana linger longer,
Boy! Does the lunchbox pong!!

Having just finished a week on 'Banana Island' with 'Ripe' and 'Rotten' the two banana girls, I particularly like this last one. (This was a holiday club at our church for children aged 3 to 13 this past week!) Jackie <> <

This was really nice of you to do this for your daughter. This must have made her day in school worthwhile and made her proud to display your poems to her friends in school.

You're a wonderful parent. There are so many great little poems here. Good write indeed!

What a great story, and memories to have.
(Though, try as I might, I can't convince anyone to write on my banana...lol.)

Cute idea, gives more of a tradional meaning to Mellow Yellow.
