The rain is pelting on my window,
The evening is pressing long toward darkness,
The day has past me for now,
And falls into night time starkness.
My ears seek the final call of birds,
My eyes the final light of day,
My voice seeks completing words,
For these soft moments never stay.
And as the gray turns ebon black,
And the last call from the tree comes down,
I find that I can not turn back,
As night o'er spreads its velvet gown.
In this fading light of day,
My mind wanders to simpler things,
And here those thoughts may stay,
'Til daylight again does spread its wings,
And far away, in ancient muse,
Where magic in distance voice it sings,
Those gentler places use.
So offer I these gentler things,
So often long forgot,
And angelic voice that happy sings,
And ties the binding knot.

Love those "gentler things" we need more of in life.
If gentle did as gentle does there'd be less pain and strife.
