Note: An old song lyric, first verse.

She told me I was good last night,
So suave, so debonair,
A gentle man without a care.
She told me I was quite a hit,
A man of charm, a man of wit.
Although I drank more than I should,
She said she understood.
She told me I was good last night.
So why do I feel so bad this morning,
Why do I hate the sunlight,
Why do I hate the sound of laughter
When she told me I was so good last night,
The night before the morning after.

So true, perhaps of a one night stand
~Gene~
But your poetry is certainly not....
and so deserving of singing in the rain

Too much of a good thing makes it hard to remember just how good things can be. Excellent piece of writing.

I remember those days back when I tied one on the night before the morning after. Excellent. So true and of course that laughter he hears tells us that whatever he was good at probably wasn't what he wanted to be good at.

This reminded me of the joke of the ninety year old man that marries a twenty something and everytime he visits her bedroom on the wedding night he forgets that he already was there a dozen times before.

To him, since he easily forgets, each time is the first time.

I don't know how good you were last night Gene. But I do know how good you were when you wrote this song. A maestro! The tryst and the wine are strictly between the two of you. The next time you awake "hating the sunlight, and the sound of laughter". Pick up your pen and compose another masterpiece to share with us. I bid you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael

too much rum perhaps, noise of laughter, noise of anything is like someone driving a sharp spike into your ear-drum? i take a drink, the drink takes a drink and the drink takes me....kind of like love....of bottles and sultry sea-maidens....great writing gene.

My reply when she said, "I was so good last night," would, and have been in the past, I'm glad I was because I'm dying today.

You said, "An old song lyric, first verse." I'm assuming it was written by you..
