~ Fisherman’s Repose ~

In silence before midnight, tackle box in hand.
A quiet drive by moonlight, to fish at Staver’s Dam.
An ice chest, bait, a fishing rod, a lamp, a snack or two,
A chair, a blanket, lucky hat, supplies to last a few.

Twinkling starlight compliments, a woodsy atmosphere,
"If God made something perfect, yes, He surely made it here."
In this special fishing place, he hears truth be said,
Truths he thought he heard before…ring clearly in his head.

Honesty with self…no fear, to work out right and wrong,
A new perspective comes to view, disharmony is gone.
Spirit beckons fishermen, to his outdoor solitude,
To fish, to ponder, digest life, in fishing’s quietude.

There in nature’s ambience, a fisherman contemplates,
Fishing line tied round his toe, mind free to speculate.
A spiritual sport, food for thought, a bite on a toe tied line,
Pan fried fish at daybreak…peace in a fisherman’s mind.

OH Bonnie You truly captured this peace. I love fishing. I really basically do have the 'toe tied line'. Using rubber hooks fishing just there to feed the fish, it is just the most peaceful thing there is to do. This is Beautiful. I'll bet every fisherman that ever reads this will take this home and also a copy for their tackle box too. This is so serene. so peaceful and that picture just really compliments this poem perfectly. Exquisite!.
Thank You.

Love this!! I'm a flyfisher-woman! been fishing all my life and started with my dad. I keep his hand-tied flies in my car at all times in case I get to the creeks of north georgia and can ease on down to fight a Rainbow trout! This poem of yours tells it like it is! Reminds me of my Dad!

I was just commenting to someone about poetry with a voice, and yours has a strong one- it's just so important, because otherwise it can blend in with the rest- yours do not blend in the slightest:) Great write with such detail that even I want to go fishing now:)

I so do LOVE fishing...and miss it terribly!
Had to choose between writing full time, and living like
I felt like...as in fishing, hiking, camping...etc.
You hit the nail right on the head when you got inside the
fisherman's heart.
Good work!
