Saida waited up last night, for Mama to come home,
Until her tiny eyes fell shut, now Saida wakes alone.
A hungry tummy growls aloud, no one hears its roar,
Too small to reach a lock up high, imprisoned by a door.
Mama said she’d be right back, with Saida’s sugar cone,
Saida didn’t know how long, since she’d been left alone.
Whimpering in her blanket, on a cold, dank, vinyl floor,
Saida waits for Mama, to come walking through the door.
Daylight slowly fades to dusk, Mama fumbles noisy keys,
In Saida’s desperation, wailing sobs of sheer relief.
Ice cream cone forgotten, until Mama goes next time,
To buy Saida a sugar cone, locking the door behind.
"If I have to...Then I may as well be."
