“The Walk”
When he was just a puppy, she would walk him round the block,
At times she wondered who was walking who.
And as he grew, their timing meshed and then they walked as one,
Into the new found mornings filled with dew.
They walked into the winter’s night, when it was dark and cold,
They walked against the summer rain, they walked till they were old.
They so looked forward to their walk, in the woods or to the store,
But she grew tired and he did not, he still waited by the door.
She couldn’t help but contemplate, why life was so unfair,
How could she make him understand, they could no longer walk as a pair.
His tattered leash, still in his mouth, she smiled down where he lay,
Come’on my friend, it’s time to go, we’ll walk for one more day.
