Quiet joys

Poem Artwork

 Morning Freshness

Sitting on my porch swing, sipping on sweet tea

Gently swaying back and forth, barefoot and carefree

Leaning back my head and looking in the eaves,

a little spider noticed waiting hungrily

Paint has curled and fallen,

weathered with the time

Hmm I think one day I’ll try,

to somehow make the time

How the porch rails sagging,

in need of some repair

But oh how lovely they do look,

they’ve stood the time out here

I love the early mornings,

while thoughts are still so fresh

Untouched by daily bustle,

no one has entered yet

Listen to those birds chirp,

all sing their lovely song

Watching gather breakfast,

for their little ones

I have to smile as I watch;

they have their tug of war

With that worm that’s in the grass,

a struggle that’s for sure

Unfortunately outweighed by the Robin’s girth,

poor worm has lost the fight

and now he’s carried off,

for morsels of delight

I look across my wheat fields,

how they glisten in the sun

Still fresh with morning’s dew,

to nurture growth to come

How the morning wetness,

shining on the grass

Pleases all the senses,

refreshing me alas

How I love this quiet,

yet still so full of noise

A pleasant effervescence of nature’s work and joy

I drink in all this freshness,

and only wish to stay

But alas the world does call me,

for just another day

For my dear lady, this creates such a view to see through your eyes. You have the imagination to also give us a picture of this.

I bow and tip my hat to you
