Dedicated to a friend who sadly was fooled

Poem Artwork

 Dance of the Harlot

Evil heart as it danced

Said look to me this my romance

Pull me with your puppet strings

Your bawdy musk of cheapness bring

Whispered lies to me you fill

Snaking hips, to give me thrill

You called it Love once I believed

Until my heart you ripped once cleaved

Passion calls to rake my soul

To drain me of your love drops sold

And turning to this foolish lad

We dance the dance of dancing dead

For in your birth there was defect

Nothing but wastelands neglect

Broken soul the devil claims

That which you brutally sinfully gave

For blackness of your heart of cold

You are but one of darkness sold

To climax in your house of lust

Full of lies to never trust

The Harlot’s psalm you did sing

For that you do and perfidy

For within you devil dwells

No conscious known or memory held

But just not me your lies be told

For soon I found many cajoled

I was not but the only soul

Your thorns have scraped your stories sold

For once I thought you be a rose

But thou art sick, your thorns exposed

For your falsehoods to many told

Dance of the Harlot you fit the mold

You make me glad that I have personally never experienced such an individual. It makes me wonder what can make a person act in this way. Thank you for sharing, Carol. Love and peace and best wishes from me,

There was a woman like this when I was growing up. There were always hushed words about her, but she was always seen with a different man. She was known for ruining marriages. She was very pretty and she knew it too.

I too had such an experience but fortunately was not long in getting over it. Just lost time and money. Vivid imagery.

Stay well and keep writing

I have to say this stuck a chord within me. I was fooled by such love, it really took me years to get over him. Betrayal is so difficult, but lightness always prevails...All I can say is Karma is a b*tch...
Great poem!

Peace, love and light,
Amber

palpable sense of hurt and betrayal here, Lily;
"We dance the dance of dancing dead"
is powerful indeed and disturbing;
like Linda, this work held me start to finish

Poetry can be used in many ways and not only to string words in the most beautiful way. It can be used for love and romance as well as to write about social abuse and many other things.
Sometimes a simple thought is the base for a poem, other times, as in this case, an incident of a friend.
You use your poetical freedom in a perfect way to show up how we all can be fooled in the name of love.

A Great write!

It goes on daily sadly D. Vaineo, so many users out there for personal gain.

Thank you Budd, this is what this poem is all about. Has nothing to do with the profession of prostitution. It has to do with people being users of others affections sapping them dry then tossing them aside and on to the next victim of many.

But, I can see your confusion Ronald :)

To call someone else a harlot, says a lot for the caller's state of mind. For harlots come in many colors, many shapes, and any backgrounds. It is impossible to pin down a harlot as being this, or that. The only common denominator is that they give sex freely for money.

The most part they are just women, thrust into a life they probably didn't want to lead.

Lily,
It is too sad that some need to resort to trickery just to hurt trusting souls.
