Although this poem could seem negative, actually it is a caution. When a breakup occurs between two former lovers, bad feelings exist. To dwell on these bad feelings and to build psychological walls against the pain can stand in the way of getting over the split and going on with one's life. This is another poem from "Acorns of Love and Wisdom," my book of poetry.

WALLS OF DEFENSE

Once loved
Lovers
Forsaken
For new realities
Retire silently
To lick
Their wounds
In private

Anguish
Large to bear
Those trampled egos
And dreams unfulfilled
Those empty links
In the chains
Of their lives
Cause lovers
To construct
Protective
Walls of defense

Yet
Kept out
By walls
Are life's beauties
New lovers
And walls
From past pain
Create new pain
And old wounds
Never heal

Sometimes, you gotta do it brick by brick... This is spot on, Steve.

Steve, Breaking down those past walls whether all at once or brick by brick can be an exhilarating experience as you discover your next love. Sometimes the journey is more rewarding than the destination, but finding the perfect destination is always worth the pain.

Excellent write!!!
