Remembering the man.

I tried to remember your face last night, and couldn't.
I laid in bed and tried.

I squinted up my eyes and concentrated,
but the only face I could remember was the one that scares me the most.

It kinda looked like a zombie face.
All twisted up in rage and pale.
Your eyes all buggy like you wanted to hurt me.
Like you wanted to eat me and rip me apart.

Rage.
That was the face.

No, no, I said to myself.
He was not always like that.
He had other faces.

But now, I cannot remember them.

When I picture you, it is all I see.

When I picture you yelling at the children.
Angry for their misdemeanors or their feelings,
it is the zombie face I see.

The one that terrified me daily.

I know you have other faces.
Other faces that you show her.
Other faces that help you hide the rage.

But I cannot see any other face.
I only see the one that hates me.

Harsh, real, honest, and sad; but your verses do express a universal and timeless theme of this life/world, Marcia. Thank you for sharing. Love, healing, and best wishes to you,

Regis
