From Complexity, Simplicity by John Herlihy In the complexity of the hours In the expensiveness of our lives Simplicity leaves behind its mark Imprimatur of our better selves Clearly displayed in the smile of a child Infant innocence in the recesses of mind Imprinted as a watermark in the heart Seen as light in the shadows of the soul Sparks of innocence that come to bear Moonbeams as rays of light that glow Complexity lies in the architecture of life Simplicity lies in life’s affirmation of soul Years may pass but simplicity never ages Soft whispers echo the wisdom of sages - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Sunday 8 February 2026

As life gets more complex, complexity seems to creep into everyone's life. I think the key to happiness, is to shrug off complexity that is no longer valid and we can do without. The simple life is better for giving us time to think and ponder more important things.

I read this and couldn't help thinking how your simplicity/complexity understanding is of such poetic need. I tried in a different way to express similar revelations in "The Life-long Pernicious Evil" but your concise wordsmithing is spot on and gives us all another moment to consider our choices of simplicity for soul, or complexity for life's archeticture. Well versed. Thank you.
