Here, in this mirror,
is all I have to remind me
of the Blue City which was my home
and start of life
See the glimmer of the temple rising
and the little dark gateway within
See the sunlight pick out
strange spires of crystal
and wonder how did they begin

I heard that, long ago, my people
first rose from the waters
and decided to create for themselves new life upon the land
The sky above was cerulean
or sometimes cyanic
so the corresponding structures
were built blued and titanic

The labors of many
created landscapes of sapphire
with turquoise fountains
which played beneath the sun
Towers of beryl glinted brilliant
like a stone forest
and cobblestoned steets
hummed a dark cobalt chorus

There were archways
of shadowed aquamarine
and indigo alleys
where secrets were told
Great azure-rain windows
reflected the stars
And we splashed through clear puddles in water-powered cars

We were proud of our navy
and hardworking boys in blue
who protected the populace,
keeping things in concordance

with the laws of the valley
and the lay of the land
so that we treated all others
as friends, sisters, and brothers

and no one went hungry
and no one alone sad
beneath the rule of our royals
chosen as the best foils

for the blue world we'd heard of
that was tarnishing grey
in another galaxy
far beyond the Milky Way...

And teal were the hilltops
Prussian blue were the fields
where we grew the cornflowers
and sometimes played there for hours

At midnight, we'd awaken
into the dark streets
just to peer at the stars high above
with four baby blue moons
dimly lighting our way
we would drop to our knees,
bow our heads, and we'd pray

For whether we believed
in what we never had seen
nor really thought existed at all
we were grateful for everything
our creator had made
if it shone in the light
or tried to hide in deep shade

And the stories we'd heard
of your Earth with its glow
and the motes that were drifting within
gave us hope that someday
you would know our world, too
and could come see our city
of glistening blue

Now periwinkle clouds come alive
with bright pink
as they sink toward the end of the day
'cross a scarred battlefield
where your missiles dug in
and vivid green grass marks the scars of our sin

and our distant white sun cries
in purples and gold
when it rises to see what's become
of the fallen Blue City
which knew only peace
never thinking that one day
our hopes might all cease...

Back to the sea,
while some fled for the stars
I stand before you now
wearing a badge of my past
if you knew who I really was,
you'd be aghast

So just look in my eyes and wonder whenceforth they came...
I'm from a beautiful memory
brightly colored the same.

Plenty of beautiful imagery here. A utopian dream far far away.
