Life goes by so quickly. No one believes it until it happens.

Poem Artwork

Yesterday I owned the world
I did what I had to do
And then more.

My home was clean
Laundry caught up
And then a trip to the store.

Children were fed
Sports and lessons done
And they began to soar.

Mistakes were made
Arguments had
The slamming of the door.

Money so tight
Never enough
It turned out we were poor.

Didn’t stay in contact
Lost my friend too soon
Cutting to the core.

Waited to hike the Appalachians
No energy this year
Life was suddenly a chore.

A few more years
Passed again
Opportunities no more.

And I realized I was old.

Conscious living is the secret....like when on holiday...memories stay forever...
But the mundane is as important as the big stuff...
A life well lived...
Hugs,

Always got a love Michael's humor. I feel sad when I read this because I see you going through a transition that you are fighting with all your worth. Both here and at home I seem to be surrounded with the aging. Almost everyone I know is going through some kind of change or another related to age. It upsets me, not because some are dying, but because some are giving up too much too soon.

I hope you don't do that and have a lot of living ahead of you. I'm looking so forward to what I've got left, and I think you know what I mean better than most.

As they say, age is mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter. Loved this gem.

..you witty-insightful-wise words Lark...charm regardless
of your age-related perspective...you still retain the edge
and ..."own the world"....Thanks for sharing your poem.

I can't relate to this as I am only 60, though to be honest I sometimes feel 100...but I keep pluggin' along as best as I can, though I do whine and complain a bit...but that is just me, I have been doing that since I was in my teens... <smile> -e-

I know that a lot of people will relate to the theme that you share through your verses here so eloquently, Lark. I know that I certainly can. I close my eyes and feel time passing past my face like a breeze. As each day, month, year go by, time seems to be speeding up. We are still here though. I just lost a friend (very young) through horrible circumstances. Coincidentally since you and I don't post that much, I just posted a poem about her. Thank you for sharing, Lark. Love and best wishes to you,

Regis

Old is the last refuge of the unimaginative.
You're not old until you give up.
A sense of humor helps.
Are you laughing or crying? :)

I can big time relate, Lark. Age does have a tendency to make us look at reality, and our energy level is lacking. Still . . . We make do the best way we can. Life goes on, until it doesn't
