Love and pain

Why does it hurt so badly?

How can something so beautiful shatter my heart?

Poem Artwork

Love and pain

Why does it hurt so badly?

How can something so beautiful shatter my heart?

They say it is better to have loved and lost

Than not at all.

I am not sure it is worth the pain

If it is supposed to bring me joy,

How come all I feel is sorrow?

If it was supposed to bring me laughter?

How come all I have left are tears?

Do I protect my heart from this pain

By not opening its doors to another

Or do I open the doors and hope a better someone

Knocks on it and brings me laughter and joy?

I think I am now healed

I try to open the doors of my heart to another

But the doors won’t budge.

I try to push it open through the squeaking

But the doors won’t open

What can I do to lubricate it so it opens?

I need it to open up to another

It heeds not to my wants but has a mind of its own

It stays in the shades and withers, wanting but not allowing those pleasures to flow in.

How can I open the doors with the guarantee that no pain shall walk in again?

Interesting, but there is never a guarantee in the game of life...

Be always safe,

Ah, what a beautiful write, there are no gaurantees, i guess that's what makes the thrills of love fun... open the doors and fear not my dear, life is short, get all the love you can and give right back as you've never given before.

Epiphany by Gary Stephens

“We’re going to use nine megaton warheads in space and we’re not sure they’re large enough to be effective. Why would you even consider using kiloton-range surface-to-air warheads as back-up?” The answer was succinct. “Because they’re all we have.”
