Broken
Lord shied me from those cold, dark faces that cloud the mind in secret places.
That twists the heart and rips it apart; denying love the chance to start.
Build a wall to keep away the capricious lover that never planned to stay
Those that leave the heart in pain; taking serenity leaving the insane
Give instead the heat of a bullet, a gun with a trigger that gives freely when you pull it
Let me feel with joy and gleam, the splitting of flesh by a laser beam
Or maybe a strong blade of steel that leaves a womb time can heal
Let me live life in vanity, losing nothing, never caused insanity
Curse the vile, deceitful beast who devours love in a gluttonous feast.
Ambiguity in his every word; seductive caresses obscuring what you’ve heard
He takes hold of intimate sacred places; leaving depleted, vacant spaces
He picks the flower to watch it wither; his kisses reveal love his heart can’t deliver
Though I feel broken and numb; when the heart is weakened the mind overcomes
Stronger willed, and more cleverly protected, I vow never again to be so openly rejected.
To the unfortunate next who may think it will be pleasing to hold me, too bad you’ll never know me
Time will find me seeing many years through swollen eyes and air dried tears
I know now what is tried and true ; give only to the one who gives also to you
