Stranger and Stranger.

So the French have decided to Set God aside,
In a secular state there is no room for God to abide,
Politics and religion don’t mix, is their fervent cry,
I seem to have heard that before in times gone by.

Cherished religious habits of thousands of people.
Cast aside by a vote of the governing elitist,
No matter whether Muslim, Christian or Jew,
No religious ornament or dress must you use,

At least if your a child and going to school,
You must all look alike and that is the rule.
The burka, the skull cap can no longer be worn,
The turban, the cross, may no longer adorn,

I may not agree with all religions and sects,
I think we must grant them a degree of respect,
Religions far older than our own beliefs,
Politicians now trying to bring them to grief,

I think of the children, bereft of their faith,
I cannot but wonder what may take it’s place,
No matter whatever politicians may order, decree,
It seems like a retrograde action to me,

What next you may ask, what does this all mean ?,
Is it a purge that’s about to begin,
Of one thing I’m certain, and it’s true without doubt,
One’s skin colour is something they can do nothing about.
