Wrote this for my mum. She keeps telling me stuff about her childhood, what her relation with her family, school friends and teachers was like. I never she actually worked in companies until she told me about her job. My respect for her rose to another level.

I've been through it all,

Be it praises or jeers,

And now as I glance back I see,

A life full of smiles and tears.

My school days as a little girl I loved,

My teachers, my books and my peers,

Harking back to those days,

Fills my heart with smiles and tears,

Constant bickering at home, couldn't find any peace

My own kith and kin oblivious to my fears,

My wedding seemed to be my only hope,

So I waited with smiles and tears,

I entered into the wedlock I much awaited,

And though assured by all the saints and seers,

I was about to live my life with a stranger,

Not knowing whether with smiles or tears.

Left the job I loved with a mind conflicted,

My future vivid, at times unclear,

My sweet child neglected for money?

But I bore it all with smiles and tears,

My two children, my bundles of joy,

They were such adorable dears,

That every coo, word or grumble,

Filled my heart with smiles or tears,

Time seemed like an emotional freeway,

My life, like a fast cruiser, swiftly changing gears,

Event and people came and went in a blur,

Making my life moments of smiles and tears,

Life has passed me by now,

Minutes, Months, Days and Years,

Everything has changed, yet it all’s the same,

Life is still an ocean of Smiles and Tears.

No one should have to undergo so many tears when growing up. But I'm glad you got him to reconcile it by writing poetry about the balance between.

Continue smiling as you write,

Ron
