Sunday echoes can be heard in the floor and walls of this old farmhouse revealing the family that once occupied it filled the home with love, laughter and prayers.

 “Sunday Echoes”

Echoes from the past…

Are embedded in the floors and walls

Of this abandoned farmhouse

A young landowner built this rancher for his bride

Who gave birth to six children in this dwelling

They farmed the land side by side

Wanting for nothing

Yet blessed with everything

Sometimes when darkness falls

You can hear the faint sounds of laughter

One day a week in the dining area~

You can hear the sounds of chairs shuffling

Or being dragged across the old floor boards

Coming to rest around the weathered farm table

Then muffled in a deep voice the sound of a man praying

When the prayer ends a noise that follows

Resembling a wind chime ~ notes that a spoon

Would make when striking a glass bowl

The one day a week it happens….is Sunday~

Nice. I bet if you close your eyes, you could see the family sitting around the table enjoying their meal. Old houses have charm and history.

Karen, your words stirred me completely. Relating what went on in that old farmhouse gave me shivers as I though of my grandfather and grandmother, both tied to a plot of Arkansas soil. I so loved this.

Sundays aside, one can almost envision what life was like during the heyday while visiting old structures that once were very vibrant with people doing ordinary things.

A few years ago my mother in her 80s, visited her long vacant childhood farmhouse and had déjà vu experiences when she found familiar artifacts left behind by former tenants that were part of her childhood there.
