How do I purge memories that make me fret?

I wish of these memories that hurt I could forget,

Sometimes of these thoughts I break into a cold sweat,

Of everyone, even though they are quite old, I have great regret…

I cannot find of those that I did at one time hurt,

Around thoughts of them I sometimes do skirt,

I hated to be to them and myself a jerk,

I cannot of my responsibility to my past, shirk…

I had thought that in time I’d have thought of myself better,

But the older I get the more these thoughts do of me fetter,

So I guess I will die with these memories as the consummate debtor?

“To err is human to forgive divine”
…and that means ourselves too…
Guilt is never a constructive emotion…
Which one of us hasn’t made mistakes,
or hurt others…? It’s okay…
We can make up our minds to let this stuff go…
and keep on letting go each time it appears…
Think good things about yourself..all the good stuff…
There must be much of it…
in the end we are the ones who are in control
of our thoughts…All things are still possible…

Good luck…

Yes, we have a conscience. Our conscious brain remembers even things we wish we would forget. I hope that you find peace before that time you leave this mortal coil. For I don't believe there's anything after that will correct bad thoughts.

You can fret all you want, Ed; but you must realize that all of us harbour regrets. I know I have some. I just do not keep on dwelling on them. I have been forgiven by some, others, I have not seen again so, I do not know. Be well. Be safe, Ed. Love and peace to you,

Regis. 🍁

Everyone has some kind of memories that they regret and wish to forget. The best thing to do is just forget them, with all the rest of the things that we forget as we age. It's inevitable.
