Look at what the wonders of deregulation have brought us!

Deregulation

First it was trucking,
Strip off all the rules;
Create a free-for-all
Well-meaning fools.

Next it was the airlines,
Removing lots of restrictions;
Let them have at it!
Another laissez-faire fiction.

They threw open wide the doors
Freeing up electric utilities;
Buyouts, brownouts, blackouts, more,
Another market exercise in futility.

After that, the Telecom Act.
Oh, mighty whirlwind of progress
Ephemeral dot-com empires
Rising, then collapsing back to dust.

Now beady eyes squint at the Postal Service,
And folks are really going to holler,
Thinking about it makes me nervous,
When stamps will cost two dollars!
