Heart Breaking Love
No I cain’t watch it doctor , Oh, I loved her so,
And my ol’heart is breaking that she has to go,
Poor little thing is suffering, I just cain’t deal with death,
It’ll haunt my dreams forever ,if I see her dying breath,
I knew that it would happen, they have a shorter life ,
But that don’t help the loss a bit, it’s breaking up my wife,
I never really thought about, all the love they’re giving,
And every day they worship you, as long as they are living,
The happy joy and pleasure ,every day when you arrive,
You’ll never find a greater love, than in those little eyes,
The doctor said, please stay with me , I know it’s hard to do,
Remember sir, I love dogs and I am human too,
To a new and scary room you bring your trusting pet,
She’s shaking bad, in nervous fear ,with folks she’s never met,
Her pain is over bearing, but she see’s your tears,
Her little tail starts flapping , she wants to calm your fears,
Don’t leave her like so many , walk away without a care,
Her frightened searching eyes for you that left her there
You’re the family that she loved, she was your very own,
Stay nearby and show her love, don’t let her die alone,
I stood and stroked her little head with comfort words until,
I couldn’t see for all the tears, her little tail was still!

because you wrote it for a friend, so really well written.
thank you for sharing it.
Understanding the way I felt when I lost my little Pomeranian Jazz to a big black lab mix that had attacked him the year before and he recovered, I know it is like to lose a loving companion like that. It is no less traumatic to have to take a dog to euthanasia to end their suffering even though they put on a good show by still wagging their tails right up until the end.
But I think the dogs have it better than us. The Hippocratic (hypocritic?) Oath and good Christian efforts have made euthanasia of humans somehow a bad thing. But when I saw my mother become angry over her totally confined life three years before (before the pandemic) with many ailments hurting her daily, that she could have passed away peacefully instead of the tragic way she did causing great pain and anguish.
