From Coming Out of the Closet and Breaking the Chains: Poetic views from the other side of a special education classroom.

 LADY DAVID

If you want me, you know where I’ll be.

I’m the seed planted in your mind

Bringing you delicious fantasies.

Round and round we go.

Don’t resist. Just hold me close.

Never, never let go.

Give me what I want. Don’t tell me no.

Society tells us that it’s wrong.

Why should we despise what we are?

Why should we despise who we are?

Nature created us all.

Nature gave us form.

We’re works of art.

We’re not porn.

Turn around and look at me.

We should love ourselves and not be afraid to be.

I want to be your lady David.

Let me be your lady David.

Let me touch you and you can touch me.

You can’t disguise your carnal desire.

It lights up your eyes. You’re on fire.

Let your fantasies play in your head frame by frame.

Forget your inhibitions. Let the game begin.

All you girls and boys,

Don’t let them tell you your body’s dirty.

Don’t let them tell you that it’s dirty.

We’re all Davids in the flesh.

We’re all beautiful creations. Everything connects.

I heard you crying out to me.

I heard you crying just to be.

I saw your arms reaching out to me.

Society isolates us by our bodies.

It separates us by our form

But I swear to you, I swear,

We’re works of art and not porn.

Touch me, you. Touch me. Touch you.

Touch me. Don’t. Don’t.

Thou shall not desecrate the flesh.

Touch me, don’t touch me.

What’s wrong with it? We live in it.

Desire, and societal judgment through a provocative dialogue about the human body and its representation. Rejection of society’s shame around physicality, highlighting that nature created us all as “works of art” rather than objects to be sexualised or degraded. The repeated motif of “David” — an allusion to Michelangelo’s famous statue — positions the body as a symbol of beauty and artistry rather than something sinful or shameful.

Clever and deep writing.
