“Clip art”
Clip art hearts sustain
in a frilled, fictive, garden
'midst tiger lilies, and
recurring fall of maple leaves
where cutouts of our love remain
swinging ... gestured in,
fur-coated, wind,
my life stream is;
the breeze
is always pleasing--it is
happy, here, with me ...
Ever, I fall asleep, my dream ...
I see your face,
as you cut out the shapes
of our love for one another--
the symbols collide and canker--
you tie our love, softly, to strings--
we are, names, colored on cutout papers--
side-by-side--together ...
each time, you say,
"I love you, forever"...
I love the stream of life,
and to laugh with things—
our giggling hearts
move apart, it seems, yet, to us ...
never ...
frolicked along the backside
of the yard, near the picketed fence,
I, still, see your footprints fading,
as the grass, there, thickens
A portrait of you sustained by summer winds:
In my mind, you fly ...
like a kite, slipping loose the strings,
loosely tied, saying goodbye ...
you know ... I will chase you
through these pastures, always ...
I remember what you said to me,
while we laughed under the maple tree,
"I love you, forever"--since then,
my tears have fallen
on the gathered leaves--tossed free ...
Desperately, I run
to the fictive garden and
clip art hearts, you made--
back to the gargantuan maple tree,
for shade; I see your face, again ...
I am, so, sheepish--I close my eyes,
and turn away ... it's not, really, you ...
it is the wind with me--you ...
have flown, high, away--a kite,
loosed from strings, saying goodbye, and
I chase you through these pastures, always ... .
