Some relationships are so toxic that the only remedy is divorce...
With the clap of a gavel,
they were gone.
the hopes…
the dreams...
the fire…
My ear against your chest,
listening to your heart beat,
keeping rhythm with mine.
The rustle of sheets,
impassioned whispers
of love…
of promise…
Your tender kiss upon my lips…
Your hands caressing my face…
We were beautiful.
Then, reality…
the bruises…
the shouts…
the threats…
doors kicked open...
Terrified of
what might happen
if I slept…
Your perversion…
My regrets…
isolation, worthlessness,
broken vows,
anguish, betrayal…
Then, the mending of a shattered life...
the sorrow…
the anger…
the tears…
coming together
with others like me.
shared pain…
a light at the end
of the tunnel.
restored courage…
renewed purpose…
born of forgiveness.
A chance to start over,
to be without fear.
With the clap of the gavel,
came hope.
