Each person's idea of Heaven differs...
I trust that when my visit here
In earthly form must end,
That I shall go to Heaven next,
As faith and God portend.
And at such time my life concludes,
I’ll wait with baited breath.
For what comes next, my Heaven
That will follow my own death.
But things I’ve learned of such a place
Confuse my mortal mind—
I’ve oft been told that Heaven holds
The souls of every kind.
That those we love while here on Earth,
We’ll meet up with again.
A comfort sure, but quandary, too,
Perplexing now and then.
A simple type example
Might involve the family pet.
I love my dogs as if my kin—
No true r love found yet.
So such a place, MY Heaven
Must be filled with many dogs.
But does that also mean this place,
Hereafter… will have…frogs?
And what about the family snake?
Or lizard, hamster, rat?
The Great Beyond for many
Might be free of bird and cat.
And must we then cohabitate
With creatures we may fear?
Or are there separate lodgings,
Special zoos, like we have here?
A vegetarian might wish
Pet Guernsey with a bell.
To others, carnivore, no steak
Would clearly equal Hell.
And God forbid I’d fear to tread
Where snakes and spiders crawl.
Regardless whether others feel
That Heaven is for all.
My Heaven would be beautiful
And never would it rain.
There’d be no telemarketers
Or math to tax my brain.
The men would all be gentlemen
Who looked like Colin Farrell.
And never would we have to wait
for snow, to sing a carol.
My Heaven would be full of song,
A daily p.m. nap.
With music sweet, of every ilk
(Except for maybe rap.)
My food would have no calories
Nor carbs for me to count.
And problems with temptation
Would be easy to surmount.
And exercise, which I despise,
Would be the simplest things.
Like hopping clouds and taking flight
With fluffy angel wings.
There wouldn’t be a curfew
Or a pesky traffic jam.
There would be no use for nametags—
You would all know who I am.
There would be no office politics
Nor cattiness to laud.
In Heaven each of us would be...
A little more like God.
