Beyond The Light
she stands before the window, curtains
drawn open, the warmth of sun warming
her as a smile lights her sightless eyes for
she knows what lies on the other side of
darkness, the painted goodness of life's
bounty, the glory of nature's light....
the crimson of autumn leaves,
and snow covered hills of winter,
green of spring's revival,
and the azure skies of summer,
the brilliance of sunrise's greeting
and the vibrancy of sunset's farewell
yes, she knows these things, she imagines
them, paints them in her mind, content
with her flawed perceptions... and as she lets
the curtains close, she smiles once more for
she also knows what lies on the other side of
light, where the shadows touch, where the
blurred edges of her reality wait, where the
muted colors are content to share their world
with her... here she finds her normalcy...
the music of morning
and the song of thunder,
the touch of restless wind
upon her face, and the silence
of sunset, the concerto of
whispering stars,
joyful laughter, and the
scent of a lily in bloom,
the taste of rain on tongue
and the sweetness of cherry lollipops...
she knows what waits beyond the darkness
but she worries not of their absence
for there is so much more that lies
just beyond the light...
and she is so very thankful.
I expect all these things to fade in time and I will like you have so elegantly expressed have my memories of vivid experiences to carry me until my mind works no more. I guess that's all we can ask for.
